Pistacio vs. Toggl

If you're comparing Toggl Track and Pistacio, the real question isn't which tool tracks time more pleasantly. It's whether you want a best-in-class time tracker plus four other tools for invoicing, leave, HR, and travel expenses — or a German SMB workspace where all of that already lives together.

It's tempting to choose a time tracker on tracking features alone. For a growing team the real question is what happens around the hours. Toggl Track does its one job superbly — fast, pleasant tracking with mature native apps for macOS, iOS, and Android, strong reporting, and a broad ecosystem of Zapier and API integrations. For an international team with a pure time-tracking need, Toggl is hard to beat.

For a German SMB, though, leave, HR records, travel expenses, DATEV export, and compliant eInvoicing are day-to-day — and all of that sits outside Toggl's focus. Pistacio replaces the Toggl-plus stack: time tracking at the centre, projects, invoicing including XRechnung/ZUGFeRD, leave, HR, travel expenses, and DATEV export in one workspace. What Pistacio stands for

  • An operational core around time: projects, billing, eInvoicing, leave, HR, and travel expenses.
  • Compliant eInvoicing (ZUGFeRD / XRechnung) straight from tracked hours — not available in Toggl Track.
  • German working-time compliance (ArbZG, MiLoG) with DATEV export.
  • One platform instead of a time tracker plus several add-ons.
  • Completely free during the open beta.

What Toggl stands for

  • Best-in-class native apps for macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android — Pistacio currently ships as a mobile PWA rather than native mobile apps (per our features inventory).
  • Very broad integrations ecosystem: Zapier, Toggl API, and dozens of direct integrations.
  • Mature, pleasant reporting UI with many report types — internationally proven.
  • Strong free tier for up to 5 users if you only need to log hours.

Pistacio vs. Toggl in detail

Choose Pistacio if …

Choose Pistacio if your German SMB has outgrown pure time tracking and wants invoicing, leave, HR, travel expenses, and DATEV export in one tool — with ArbZG/MiLoG compliance.

Choose Toggl if …

Choose Toggl Track if you mainly need excellent, focused time tracking with native iOS/Android apps and lots of integrations — and invoicing, HR, and expenses already live in other systems.

Switching

Switching works via CSV: Toggl Track offers CSV exports for time entries, projects, clients, and users. These records import through Pistacio's CSV import. For a clean switch we recommend a cut-off date: hours up to the cut-off stay archived in Toggl, from the cut-off onwards you track in Pistacio — including invoicing, leave, HR, and travel expenses.
